Yellow Bell Wind Chime
This wind chime has 5 notes, FGACD and is tuned to the foundation tone in China – thought of as the most ancient and advanced tone. Tuned to a Chinese Pentatonic Scale, arranged in the order of fa,so,la,do,re. The 5 notes are each related to the 5 important virtues: Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Knowledge and Faith.
The starting point of the Chinese foundation tone was created in the 3rd Millennium BC by Emperor Huang Ti. This was known as Huang Chung or Yellow Bell, setting the pitch upon which the music of the entire nation was based. Sound was considered to arise out of harmony, with life patterns following musical patterns. Yellow is the Chinese imperial colour and the colour of sacred wisdom.
These chimes incorporate the concept of the 5 Directions (North, South, East, West and Centre) and the 5 Elements:
Earth – Represented by the semi precious stones,
Metal – The aluminium tubing,
Fire – The burnished Tibetan OM script on the wind plate, an ancient symbol, sacred totality of all sounds penetrating and sustaining the universe.
Water – The wood grain which is reminiscent of the concentric growth rings indicating the age and annual rainfall,
Air – Action of wind on the chime.
